Wanna Kana features a gamified version of learning Japanese alphabets. Like learning any new language, you must first master the alphabets used in the language. The Japanese language uses Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji forms in its language. This Japanese language learning app features all the forms of Japanese writing, both in Hiragana and Katakana. The levels are split with 6 alphabets for each. Complete mastery of 6 characters and continue to the next level.

In Wanna Kana, it’s all about revising and mastering each character in the Japanese language, particularly Hiragana and Katakana. You’ll need to follow the instructions in writing each of the characters. Trace what you see on your mobile phone screen and proceed to the next step. Each character takes about 4 times of writing before you’ll be able to proceed to the next character. This is to encourage memorization and recalling each character by the end of each lesson.

The process of learning is accompanied with a gameplay to simulate you having an intense (but cute) battle with yokais. This turn-based gameplay will end if you’re able to inflict damage 4 times, before moving on to the next alphabet. Complete all the alphabet lessons and challenge the level boss. The boss fight is designed to help you recall whatever you’ve learned in the level so far. Complete the fight and proceed to a new set of alphabets in the next level.


For each Japanese alphabet displayed, Wanna Kana also features an audio file associated with the alphabet. Simply tap on it to listen to how it is pronounced to fortify your understanding of the Japanese language.
